Tea and Oranges From China for Amelia
Oil and acrylic on panel
30x40inches, 76.2x101.6cm
2017
Tea and oranges from China is, of course, a reference to Leonard Cohen's song "Suzanne." The song or poem is about a modern woman (during the 1960īs) and a parallel between her and the church, beautiful values that were changing rapidly during the 60's and 70's. So, the painting is an homage to Cohen but, also, it is dedicated to my daughter, Amelia, who is 3 years old. -Michael French
